Holika Dahan commemorates the legend of Bhakt Prahlad. His demon father, Hiranyakashipu, tried to kill him by making his aunt Holika sit in a blazing fire with Prahlad in her lap. Holika had a boon that made her immune to fire. However, due to Lord Vishnu's grace, Prahlad was saved unhurt, and the evil Holika was burned to ashes.

The word "Akshaya" means "never diminishing" or "eternal," and "Tritiya" refers to the third lunar day of the Vaisakha month. Therefore, any good deed, charity, investment, or purchase made on this day brings eternal and never-ending prosperity.
